It typically occurs every 28 days and is divided into three phases: the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. The follicular phase is the first phase of the cycle and starts on the first day of menstruation. During this time, the body is preparing for ovulation by increasing the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This hormone stimulates the growth of follicles in the ovaries, which contain immature eggs.
